Abstract

Abstract

Lupong manang is a very sacred wooden box that belongs to Manang and has a significant role in traditional Iban medicine and healing which is the Belian ritual. However, the practice of Manang is increasingly being forgotten by the Iban community due to religious factors, globalization and the relevance of life. Therefore, this study will analyze the Lupong Manang in the collection of the Sarawak Museum to see the origin, aesthetics of art and appearance as well as its significance in the cultural rituals of the Iban community by using a Fleming Model (1974). This research approach is explanatory research through a qualitative methodology. The findings found that Lupong Manang has important values in providing an image of how the traditional Iban community firmly adheres to the relationship between humans and the supernatural. The implication of this research is as an effort to provide a collective understanding and archive Lupong Manang as a study of the culture of the indigenous people in Sarawak.
