KONSERVASI ARTIFAK BUDAYA IBAN DALAM MUZIUM SARAWAK: SATU PENELITIAN AWAL (CONSERVATION OF IBAN CULTURAL ARTIFACTS IN THE SARAWAK MUSEUM: AN EARLY RESEARCH)

Abstrak 

Penyelidikan ini adalah memfokuskan etnografi dan konservasi material budaya masyarakat Iban dalam Muzium Sarawak dalam proses penelitian awal. Selama 100 tahun, Muzium Sarawak berperanan besar dalam usaha untuk memelihara dan memulihara warisan budaya masyarakat peribumi Sarawak, khususnya artifak budaya masyarakat Iban. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif iaitu untuk mengenal pasti, memahami dan meneliti konservasi dan artifak budaya Iban dengan menemu bual informan yang relevan secara in-depth interview, pemerhatian secara tidak langsung dan pendokumentasian secara bergambar. Selain itu, sumber sekunder turut digunakan bagi menyokong kerelevanan penyelidikan ini. Dapatan penyelidikan mendapati bahawa telah wujud pola perubahan dalam pembangunan bidang konservasi artifak budaya masyarakat Iban dalam Muzium Sarawak. Tujuan penyelidikan ini adalah sebagai usaha untuk mendokumentasikan pemeliharaan dan pemuliharaan artifak budaya masyarakat Iban. Oleh itu, melalui penyelidikan ini diharapkan mampu untuk memberikan penambahan ilmu baharu kepada pemuliharaan dan pemeliharaan artifak budaya masyarakat Iban dalam Jabatan Muzium Sarawak.

Abstract 

This study associated to the ethnography and conservation of materials in the Iban’s culture within the Sarawak museum. For a century, the Sarawak museum has significance roles in the effort to conserve and restoration of the Sarawak indigenous heritage, especially Iban’s cultural artifact that experienced several phases of development and artefact management throughout different timeline, change of legacies, cultural relevant and challenges addition to the issue of cultural artifact management. This study applied a qualitative approach of identifying, understanding and analyze the conservation of Iban’s artifact through interview with relevant informant by the in-depth interview. Other than that, secondary resources were referred to support the studies relevant. The studies have established an occurrence of varying pattern in the development of the field of artifact conservation in the Sarawak museum and the decline of cultural Iban’s artifact due to certain factors. The purpose of this research is as an effort to archive the preservation of cultural artifacts of the Iban community. Therefore, through this research it is hoped to be able to provide a comprehensive understanding of the preservation of cultural artifacts of the Iban community.
